For the defending state champions in Class A, the 13th consecutive win for Lincoln Southeast was a fight to the finish as they battled to a 28-21 win over Millard West Friday afternoon at Seacrest Field.
Southeast got out to an early 13-0 lead after one quarter of play, with great plays on the defensive side of the ball. Millard West then scored two touchdowns in the second quarter taking a 14-13 lead into the locker room.
The Knights scored the only points of the third quarter taking a 21-14 lead after three quarters of play. Southeast added a fourth quarter touchdown going up 28-14, before Millard West added a touchdown to make the score 28-21 in favor of Southeast with under 3 minutes left in the game.
On the ensuing kickoff, Southeast picked up two first downs on the drive to run out the clock giving the Knights a season opening win.
