Lincoln Southwest's run at a state volleyball championship came to an end Thursday morning as the Silver Hawks were swept (21-25, 17-25, 20-25) by the Millard West Wildcats in the first round of the State Volleyball Championships at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island.
It was the second three-set sweep of Southwest this season.
Following the match, Lincoln Southwest head coach Mary Schropfer said, "I told them to enjoy the day, enjoy the experience, and enjoy the fact that they got here, and they lost to a good team, so it wasn't because of lack of effort, they just need to enjoy their experience here."
Kamesha Young led Millard West with a team-high 13 kills in the match.
For Lincoln Southwest, Marysa Wilkinson led the Silver Hawks with 16 kills and Malory Dahl added 10.
Lincoln Southwest finishes the season at 25-8, while Millard West meets the defending Class A champions in Papillion-LV South Friday morning in a state semifinal match.
