The Nebraska School Activities Association will host the first annual Dual Wrestling Championships at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Health & Sports Center on Saturday, Feb. 23.
Classes B & C will take to the mats first at 8:30 a.m. Top-ranked Omaha Skutt Catholic will dual Alliance in the Class B bracket, while Plattsmouth and Syracuse tangle in the first round. Lexington will meet Scottsbluff and Nebraska City will face York in the lower half of the bracket. Class C will feature an intra-city battle in the first round as David City takes on cross-town rival Aquinas Catholic. Wilber-Clatonia will meet Central City, while Valentine wrestles O’Neill and Madison faces Sargent/Burwell.
In Class A, top-seeded Grand Island will square off against Lincoln Southwest at 3 p.m., while Millard West and Millard South will meet in the first round. Kearney will wrestle Omaha North and second-seeded Omaha Burke will face Creighton Preparatory in the other first round matches. Class D, which also begins at 3 p.m., has top-seeded Amherst matching up against Maxwell. Plainview will take on East Butler, while Bayard goes against High Plains Community. The other first round match pits Pender against Neligh-Oakdale.
Wrestling fans who cannot make it to Kearney will be able to monitor the action live as it happens via their computers. The NSAA and Trackwrestling will provide live interactive scoring for each match.
