Nebraska emphasized defense in its 2012 football recruiting class, with 11 of the 17 players signed expected to start their careers on that side of the ball.

Coach Bo Pelini brought in four linebackers. The best appears to
be four-star recruit Zaire Anderson out of Riverside (Calif.)
Community College.

The Cornhuskers signed four defensive linemen, including
four-star end Greg McMullen of Akron, Ohio.

Four-star cornerback Mohammed Seisay out of Eastern Arizona
Junior College is the top defensive back recruit.

The Huskers signed one quarterback, Tommy Armstrong of Cibolo, Texas.

Nebraska lost one of its top targets, offensive lineman Andrus
Peat of Tempe, Ariz. The 6-foot-7, 305-pound tackle, rated among
the best at his position nationally, chose Stanford.

Below are the athletes who've signed letters of intent to play football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Jared Afalava

Linebacker, 6'3", 215, South Jordan, Utah
Afalava, is a 3 star Outside Linebacker from South Jordan, Utah. Afalava, according to is the 50th ranked Outside Linebacker in the country. He led his high school Bingham to 22-3 record over the past two seasons, leading the team in tackles in both seasons. He also recorded 3 sacks and 8 interceptions over that time. At 6-foot, 3 inches and 215 lbs, Afalava has the frame to play either at Outside or Inside Linebacker.

Leroy Alexander

Athlete, 6'2", 190, Toledo, Ohio
Leroy Alexander could be used in a variety of ways for Nebraska. The 6-foot, 2-inch athlete has 4.4 speed, making him a candidate to play at a number of positions. Alexander lined up at receiver and defensive back at Whitmer High School in Toledo, Ohio. He also starred on special teams. Alexander scored 9 touchdowns during his senior season, along with recording 43 tackles and 2 interceptions.

Zaire Anderson

Linebacker, 6'1", 220, Riverside, California
Zaire Anderson is a 4-star outside linebacker hailing from Riverside, California. The 6'1", 220-pound prospect was offered a scholarship by Akron, Kentucky, Mississippi State, TCU and Texas Tech, but committed to the Huskers following his visit for the Iowa game in November. In 11 games played this past season, Anderson tallied 95 tackles, including 17 TFL and seven sacks.

Tommy Armstrong

Dual-threat quarterback, 6'2", 210, Cibolo, Texas
Tommy Armstrong is a three-star dual-threat quarterback from Cibolo, Texas. Armstrong had offers from Georgia Tech, Kansas, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oregon, Southern Miss, TCU, Texas State, Texas-San Antonio and UCLA, but chose Nebraska, after being recruited by Nebraska offensive coordinator Tim Beck. As a senior, Armstrong completed 106 passes for 1,945 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also ran the ball for over 1,200 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Thomas Brown

Inside Linebacker, 6'2", 212, Gardena, California
Thomas Brown is a three-star inside linebacker from Gardena, California. Brown was offered a scholarship by Arizona State, Colorado, San Jose State, Southern Methodist and Utah before making his decision to join the Big Red. He was recruited by Rich Fisher.

Sam Cotton

Tight End, 6'4", 240, Lincoln, Nebraska
Sam Cotton is the lone in-state prospect in Nebraska's recruiting class. Cotton was offered a scholarship by Ohio and Tulsa before committing to the Huskers. Cotton led his Lincoln Southeast Knights to a Class A state championship over top-ranked Omaha Burke. Cotton was recruited by his father Barney Cotton and John Garrison to play for Nebraska.

Imani Cross

Running Back, 6'1", 220, Gainesville, Georgia
With a stable full of young I-backs, improving the backfield was not a major need for Nebraska's 2012 recruiting class. Yet Imani Cross should add depth to an already talented group. Cross is a 3-star prospect rated as the nation's 25th-best running back, according to The Gainesville, Georgia native averaged nearly 9 yards per carry during his high school senior season, while scoring 24 touchdowns. Cross was recruited nation-wide, receiving scholarship offers from Tennessee, UCLA, and Georgia Tech, among others. Cross stands 6-foot, 1-inches tall and weighs 220 pounds.

Aaron Curry

Defensive Tackle, 6'3", 298, Keller, Texas
Curry is ranked as a top 50 Defensive Tackle prospect. His senior year he totaled 59 tackles, 3 sacks and a forced fumble in 2011.

Greg McMullen

Defensive End, 6'5", 255, Akron, Ohio
McMullen another 4-star recruit for the Big Red, commits to the Huskers from Akron, Ohio. At 6-foot 5 inches McMullen has a great frame to work with at defensive end. Listed as the 12th ranked Defensive End by, McMullen racked up 74 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks during his senior season at Archbishop Hoban.

Alonzo Moore

Athlete, 6'2, 170, Winnfield, Louisiana
Alonzo Moore is a four-star athlete from Winnfield, Louisiana who runs a 4.65 40-yard dash. Moore had offers on the table from Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State and Northwestern State before deciding to play for the Huskers. Moore ranks 22 nationally at his position.

Avery Moss

Defensive End, 6'4", 245, Tempe, Arizona
Moss, another Defensive End, joins the Huskers from Tempe, Arizona. Moss, a 3 star recruit is listed as the 33rd ranked Defensive End by At 6-foot 4 inches and 245 lbs, Moss has a good frame to build on. Moss, who has only played organized football for 2 years committed to the Huskers during the Semper Fideils All-American Bowl on CBS Sports. In those two seasons, Moss racked up 56 tackles, and 5 sacks at Corona Del Sol High. Moss is cousins with current Husker Todd Peat Jr. and Husker Target Andrus Peat.

Michael Rose

Linebacker, 6'0", 230, Kansas City, Missouri
Michael Rose is a 3-star linebacker who hails from Kansas City. The 6-foot, 230-pound prospect was pursued by a number of Big Ten teams, along with USC. Rose, considered the 5th-best player out of Kansas, was selected to play in the nationally-acclaimed Under Armour All-Star game. At 6-foot, 230 pounds, Rose has the tools to be a good run-stopping linebacker, along with the ability to cover during passing situations.

Mohammed Seisay

Cornerback, 6'2", 200, Thatcher, Arizona
Mohammed Seisay is a four-star cornerback from Thatcher, Arizona. Seisay was offered a scholarship by fellow Big Ten schools Illinois and Indiana as well as other universities before committing to play for the Huskers. Seisay played football at Eastern Arizona Junior College and graduated in December.

Paul Thurston

Offensive Lineman, 6'5", 274, Arvada, Colorado
Thurston comes to the Huskers as a 4-star talent from Arvada West High school in Colorado, The offensive tackle is listed as the 14th best tackle in the country by At 6-foot 5 inches, and 274 lbs, Thurston has 5.0 speed and Head Coach Bo Pelini expects Thurston to contribute at guard early on in his career at Nebraska.

Vincent Valentine

Defensive Tackle, 6'3", 300, Bigardsville, Illinois
Vincent Valentine is a three-star defensive tackle from Edwardsville, Illinois. In addition to Nebraska, Valentine had high interest from Florida and fellow Big Ten school Illinois. He was recruited to Nebraska by John nationally John Garrison and ranks 28th nationally at his position.

Jordan Westerkamp

Wide Receiver, 6'2", 195, Lombard, Illinois
Westerkamp is a 4-star wide receiver with 4.5 speed according to An early verbal commit, the Compiling-opened his recruiting when he visited Compiling in December, but decided to stay with the Big Red. Westerkamp who stands at 6-foot 2 inches hails from Montini, IL and was the Chicago Tribune's Player of the Year. Compiling more receiving yards and touchdowns than anyone in Illinois state history with (4618 yards) (68 Touchdowns), Westerkamp helped lead Montini to 3 straight state titles from 2009-2011.

Corey Whitaker

Offensive Lineman, 6'5", 270, Murrietta, California
Corey Whitaker is a 3-star offensive lineman according to, who will likely start his Husker career on the interior line. Capable of playing either center of guard, Whitaker received recruiting interest from Oregon and Florida, yet chose the Huskers. The Murrieta, California native was a late addition to Nebraska's signing class. Whitaker measures 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds.
