Lincoln North Star survived a late scare by Lincoln Northeast to edge the Rockets 35-27 at Seacrest Field on Friday. North Star defenders quickly tackled Northeast receiver Makiah Slade at the 2 yard line, in a drive that started at the Northeast 3 with 1:29 left in the game and no timeouts. The tackle by North Star sealed the win.
Slade, who ran for 132 yards and scored two touchdowns caught the pass at the North Star 3 yard line and slipped to the turf as time expired.
Lincoln North Star (1-1) heads on the road to face Bellevue East next Friday, while Lincoln Northeast (0-2) faces Lincoln High.
