For the third straight season, it was Lincoln Southeast coming out victorious against the Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks, 17-12 at Seacrest Field — and it was the arm of Najee Jackson intercepting a Tay Bender pass that led to the win for the Knights.
More than 8,500 fans took in the contest that saw a new quarterback leading the Knights, as Najee Jackson took over the reins from Derrius Vick, who is now at Ohio University.
Lincoln Southeast (1-0) took a 10-6 lead into the halftime break, and then added another touchdown in the third quarter when Jackson launched a 79-yard pass to Desmond Robinson giving the Knights a 17-6 lead. Lincoln Southwest added a touchdown, but the Knights offense was too much for Lincoln Southwest to contain.
LSE running back Devin Washington ran the ball 27 times for 114 yards. Najee Jackson finished the game with two touchdown passes and 120 yards.
LSW quarterback and Kansas State recruit Tay Bender finished the game with 168 yards through the air and three interceptions. Jake Jordan ran the ball 20 times and 104 yards for the Silver Hawks.
LSE travels to face Papillion-LaVista South next Friday, while Lincoln Southwest hosts Omaha Westside at Seacrest Field.
