The University of Nebraska volleyball is ranked number one in the American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll.
The Huskers garnered 1,431 points from the 60 coaches that vote in the poll, edging out Penn State, who is ranked second. The Nittany Lions had more first place votes than the Huskers, but Nebraska has more total votes.
The Huskers finished last season as national runner up to the Washington Huskies, who are ranked number three in the poll. The Huskers return five of their top eight players from last year's squad, including two-time AVCA All-American Sarah Pavan and Big 12 Freshman of the Year Jordan Larson.
The Huskers will be without 2005 National Player of the Year Christina Houghtelling, who underwent shoulder surgery in July and will not be able to play this season.
Other Big 12 teams in the poll include Texas at number 8, Missouri at number 13, and Kansas State at number 25.
