Pat Summitt has now gone where no other major college basketball coach has traveled.
The Tennessee women's coach has become the first Division I basketball coach -- man or woman -- to win 1,000 career games. Her 12th-ranked Lady Vols routed Georgia 73-43. It was their second chance in four days at giving their coach her latest and one of her greatest milestones.
These baby Lady Vols, with seven freshmen on the roster, improved to 17-and-4.
In her 35 years at Tennessee, she has won eight national titles. And Summitt says reaching 1,000 victories is "a hard number to even comprehend."
Summitt thanked her former players and staff and the Tennessee administration for giving her the chance when women's basketball was not as popular as it is today.
