February baseball is typically played down south. In years past, the Huskers have travelled to Texas, South Carolina, California, and other warm-weather locations. Rarely do the Huskers see the Hawks Field dirty in the first month of the season.
That didn't stop NU officials from scheduling a home game in 2009. The Huskers host North Dakota Wednesday afternoon, which opens the home portion of the Nebraska schedule. With temperatures forecasted to be unseasonably warm, it should be a good day for baseball.
Nebraska will send sophomore Matt Freeman to the mound, who will make his first career start. The Huskers bring in a 2-1-1 record after a successful opening weekend at Louisiana-Lafayette.
