WAYNE, Neb. (AP) -- Wayne State College has announced it will not renew its contract with men's basketball coach Rico Burkett.
Burkett's current contract expired at the end of this season.
The Wildcats finished with an 11-16 overall record, going 7-13 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Burkett has been head coach for the past nine seasons, accumulating an 111-138 overall record. He had two winning seasons, in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
His tenure as head coach is second-longest in school history, surpassed only by W. Ray Hickman, who coached from 1927 to 1938.
Prior to taking the helm, Burkett was an assistant under Greg McDermott from 1997 to 2000.
Athletic director Eric Schoh says a national search will be conducted to find Burkett's replacement.
