NWU Center Earns All-AD3I Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nebraska Wesleyan junior center Dylan Aylward received another honor this season when he was named to the Association of Division III Independent 2009 All-Independent Men’s Basketball Team. Aylward was named to the All-AD3I First-Team.

Aylward (Lincoln, Neb.) was the Prairie Wolves’ top scorer on the season averaging 13.4 points per game. The 6’8 center led the team with 13 blocked shots and was third on the team in rebounding averaging 4.3 per game.

The Lincoln Southwest H.S., product led the team in scoring in 11 games during the season, and was the team’s leading rebounder in five games. He was also named to the All-GPAC Second-Team this season.

Aylward was an All-AD3I Third-Team selection as a sophomore in 2007-08. He becomes the first NWU player to be named to the AD3I First-Team since 2006.

Tyler Gordon from Finlandia University was named the AD3I Player of the Year after leading the independents in scoring at 23.4 points per game.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 17 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2008-09. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports. In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of eight other sports this year.

Nebraska Wesleyan finished the 2008-09 season with a 10-15 overall record.
