Considering the poor state of the program he inherited three years ago, Nebraska coach Doc Sadler says it's a major accomplishment for his Cornhuskers to get an invitation to the NIT two years in a row.
Sixth-seeded Nebraska (18-12) opens the tournament Tuesday night at No. 3 seed New Mexico (21-11).
Sadler said Monday that his program is headed the right direction, and he credits his players' strong work ethic for that. The Huskers finished with a .500 record in the Big 12 for the first time in 10 years.
The Huskers are 3-2 all-time in first-round NIT road games. Nebraska and New Mexico will be meeting for the first time in men's basketball.
