Let the quarterback battle begin.
Four guys enter the spring season with a shot at winning Nebraska's starting job quarterback job -- Zac Lee, Cody Green, Kody Spano and LaTravis Washington. "The guys that earn it are going to play," Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini Tuesday. ,
Junior Zac Lee seems to be the favorite thanks in part to the departure of Patrick Witt. Witt transferred weeks ago, leaving the door wide-open for Lee. "I feel like he's kind of a perfect fit for what our coaches are looking for and I think it's his job," defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh said. "The coaches aren't going to give it to him which I respect," Suh added. "He has to earn it and that's his job. I feel right now like it's his to lose."
Lee's biggest challenger for the starting job could be incoming freshman Cody Green. Green though, will miss the first week of spring practice due to a minor hip injury. "It's not anything long-term," Pelini said. "The Doctor's said on a scale of one-to-10 it's like a one. It's just one of those things where it just takes a little bit of time to heal."
Joining Lee and Green under center will be red-shirt freshman Kody Spano and linebacker Latravis Washington. Yes, linebacker LaTravis Washington. Washington will try to make the switch back to quarterback - the position he played in high school.
"It's something he wanted to try and that we wanted to look at," Pelini said. "He's got a big arm and we need another arm and we're just going to see what it looks like."
Nebraska will hold the first of 15 spring practices Wednesday afternoon with its annual Red/White scrimmage scheduled for April 18th.
