Nebraska women's basketball coach Connie Yori has been chosen for the 2009-12 USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team Committee, USA Basketball announced on Wednesday, March 25.
Yori, who is leading the Huskers to their sixth consecutive postseason tournament appearance, will help choose coaches and athletes for USA Basketball college-aged competitions over the next four years. Those competitions will include the 2009 and 2011 FIBA U19 World Championships, the 2010 and 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championships, the 2009 and 2011 World University Games and the 2011 Pan American Games.
Yori, who is in her seventh season as Nebraska's head coach, is joined on the USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team Committee by NCAA representative Sue Donohoe, California head coach Joanne Boyle, Penn State head coach Coquese Washington and Virginia Commonwealth head coach Beth Cunningham.
Based in Colorado Springs, Colo., USA Basketball is a non-profit organization and the national governing body for men's and women's basketball in the United States. As the recognized governing body for basketball in the United States by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), USA Basketball is responsible for the selection, training and fielding of USA teams that compete in FIBA-sponsored international basketball competitions, as well as for some national competitions.
Yori will lead Nebraska against New Mexico in the second round of the 2009 WNIT tonight in Rio Rancho, N.M. Tip-off between the Huskers and Lobos is set for 8 p.m.
