Lincoln - Sophomore right-hander Molly Hill tossed her second consecutive shutout and fellow sophomore Brittany Pascale provided the offense with her first home run of the season as the Huskers' opened their Wednesday doubleheader against Colorado State with a 1-0 win in game one.
Hill (11-6) was brilliant, tossing a six-hit shutout after tossing a one-hit shutout on Tuesday night against Drake. Against Colorado State, Hill struck out 11 while picking up her team-leading fourth shutout of the season.
After scattering five hits and a walk through the first six innings, Hill ran into trouble in the seventh. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases with only one out for the top of the Colorado State order. Hill dug down though and struck out the game's final two hitters.
With Hill in control in the circle, the Huskers didn't need much offense. Pascale not only provided the game's only run with her leadoff blast in the second inning, it also marked Nebraska's lone hit - and lone baserunner - of the game.
In the circle for Colorado State (21-17), Jessica Strickland (6-5) was near-perfect, but her one mistake proved to be the difference. In a complete-game effort, Strickland allowed only one Husker to reach base while striking out three and throwing only 58 pitches.
With the victory, Nebraska won its third straight game and improved to 23-11 on the season. The Huskers will be looking for their second doubleheader sweep in as many days in game two.
