Nebraska fullback Dane Todd is one of two winners of the Walter Byers Scholarship. It's the NCAA's highest academic award.
The other winner is Washington and Lee tennis player Katie Kingsbury.
Todd was an all-conference player and had a 4.0 GPA. He earned a degree in biology last May and has spent the past year as a teaching assistant.
Each student receives a scholarship for $21,500 and can renew the scholarship for a second year based on academic performance.
The award is named for the NCAA's first executive director.
