Roy fell one vote shy of being a unanimous choice for the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy.
Toronto's Andrea Bargnani was a distant second in the balloting by a panel of 128 sports writers and broadcasters. Rudy Gay of Memphis finished in third place.
Roy, a 6'6", 229-pounder, was the Pacific-Ten Conference's Player of the Year his senior season at Washington. He was drafted with the sixth overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves, then traded to Portland for the draft rights to Randy Foye.
