What to Do with Rosenblatt

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Louisiana State's Skip Bertman says Ebbets Field, the Polo Grounds and the old Comiskey Park all were demolished, and even Yankee Stadium is set to come down.

Bertman asks, why not Rosenblatt Stadium?

Bertman is the LSU athletic director who won five national championships as the Tigers' baseball coach.

Omaha is considering whether to build a new stadium downtown or do a $25 million-dollar renovation of Rosenblatt.

Bertman says Rosenblatt is a special place, just like other baseball landmarks that have been torn down. He says if the city and N-C-A-A think it's time for Rosenblatt to go, he trusts them to make the right decision.

Tar Heels coach: Rosenblatt like old leather chair

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Rosenblatt Stadium might be a bit rickety, but that's part of its charm.

So says North Carolina coach Mike Fox.

Fox is bringing the Tar Heels back to Omaha this week after a runner-up finish in last year's College World Series.

Fox says he loves the nostalgia that goes along with playing at an old-time ballpark where Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds and Dave Winfield appeared with their college teams.

Fox's comments come as Omaha mulls whether to build a new stadium downtown or renovate Rosenblatt.

Fox says newer isn't always better. He compares Rosenblatt to an old leather chair, saying it just feels better than a new one.

Polk calls Rosenblatt `centerpiece' of college baseball

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Mississippi State coach Ron Polk calls Rosenblatt Stadium the centerpiece of college baseball.

This week, Polk is bringing a team to the College World Series for the eighth time since 1973. And though he loves Rosenblatt, he has faith Omaha city leaders will do the right thing when it comes to the decision on whether to renovate the stadium or build a new one.

Polk says he'd hate to see Rosenblatt go, but if Omaha is going to build something bigger and better, he's all for it.

Omaha leaders are mulling whether to build a $50 million-dollar stadium downtown or spend $25 million dollars to renovate Rosenblatt.
