Friday morning Nebraska football coach Bill Callahan let a crowd of 250 people know that he was excited about the fall campaign as he kicked off his first Husker Nation Tour.
Callahan said he is "jacked up, geeked up and amped" about the upcoming season. He said he is ready to come out of his shoes.
It has become a tradition at the University of Nebraska for the football, basketball and other coaches to travel the state in a major tour. The event helps them keep in touch with fans and generate some buzz about their programs.
Callahan is taking over the football program after Frank Solich was fired following a 9-3 regular season. Athletic Director Steve Pederson, the man who made the change, also was on the tour.
For Pederson, it may be a chance to mend some fences among fans.
National sports magazine Sports Illustrated's profile this month of the Nebraska sports landscape declared Pederson the "Enemy of the State." That was based on an online poll of 401 Nebraska residents who identified themselves as sports fans.
