Former Chadron State football player Jay Long has been hired as the school's new coach.
The 35-year-old Long spent the last three seasons as head coach
at Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D., leading the Yellowjackets
to a 15-15 record.
Long replaces Bill O'Boyle, who was fired in December after a
report by an independent accounting firm found that O'Boyle opened
secret accounts for program funds and failed to document $22,000 in
spending. O'Boyle said he didn't use the money for his own
expenses. The matter was self-reported to the NCAA.
Long graduated in 2001 from Chadron State, where he was a two-time all-conference offensive lineman.
The Eagles were 6-5 last season, 3-1 under athletic director
Brad Smith, who took over after O'Boyle was relieved of his duties.
