The Creighton men's basketball team remained 11th in the USA Today coaches poll while jumping three spots to 13th in the Associated Press rankings that were released on Monday.
Creighton has now been ranked in the top 17 by both groups in each of the first 10 polls of the season. The No. 11 rank in the coaches poll matches the program's highest ranking this season, also done the week of Nov. 26th and Dec. 31st. Creighton's No. 13 ranking in the AP poll trails only its No. 11 rank on Nov. 26th this season.
Creighton has now been ranked in the AP poll during 22 of Greg McDermott's 47 weeks at the helm, not to mention five other weeks where it's been 26th, 27th or 28th. The 22 weeks in the poll are most of any Creighton basketball coach in history.
Statistically, Creighton ranks among the nation's top-21 in 10 different categories. The Jays lead the nation with 9.5 three-pointers per game while also ranking second with 43.7 percent marksmanship from three-point range. Creighton's also fifth in field goal percentage (.512), sixth in win percentage (.933) and assist/turnover ratio (1.53), ninth in assists per game (17.8), 18th in both total points (1,192) and scoring offense (79.5), 19th in scoring margin (17.1) and 21st in free-throw percentage (.757).
Individually, Grant Gibbs is second in assist/turnover ratio (5.06) and 22nd in assists per game (6.06), Doug McDermott is third in points per game (23.1), 38th in free-throw percentage (.871) and 49th in field goal percentage (.543). In addition, Gregory Echenique ranks 63rd in double-doubles (4), 85th in blocked shots per game (1.73) and 113th in rebounds per game (7.8). Also in the top-100 are Ethan Wragge, who is 88th with 2.47 three-pointers per game, and Austin Chatman who ranks 80th with 4.7 assists per game and 83rd with a 2.15 assist/turnover ratio.
Creighton (14-1, 3-0 MVC) continues Missouri Valley Conference play on Tuesday when it hosts Drake (6-8, 0-3 MVC) at 7:05 pm.
