Doane College football coach Matt Franzen has announced the signing of 18 football players for Fall 2013. The list his highlighted with six transfers and 12 soon-to-be freshmen. The initial list is comprised of 11 defensive players, primarily on the defensive line and linebacker corps.
The transfer list is decorated with former Crete High School athletes Colten Mach, Mitch Marvin and Tim Herman. All three will compete for playing time at position openings following losses to graduation. Doane graduates three seniors from the 2012 defensive line and replaced two of those spots with transfers Nick Bingham and Damond Parker.
The freshman recruit class includes three players from Pierce High School where the Bluejays are coached by former Tiger player Mark Brahmer. The Tigers also made an impact out-of-state with the signing of three Texas football players, all on the defensive side of the ball.
Nick Bingham Snellville, Ga. Lindsey Wilson College
Defensive End / 6-3 / 235 lbs
Athletic Defensive End Transfer from Lindsey Wilson College will have one year of eligibility remaining for the Tigers. Looks to fill the void left by graduation of 3 Seniors on the defensive line.
Colten Mach Crete, Neb. Nebraska-Kearney
Linebacker / 5-10 / 230 lbs
2012 Crete High School product has transferred back home from Nebraska-Kearney where he was a highly touted scholarship linebacker. Will provide excellent depth at LB and should compete for time on special teams for the 2013 Tigers.
Mitch Marvin Crete, Neb. Augustana Univ.
Wide Receiver / 6-1 / 170 lbs
2012 Crete High school graduate returns home after spending 1 season as a Wide Receiver at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. The coaching staff expects Mitch to compete for playing time at the "X" receiver spot for the Tigers.
Tim Herman Crete, Neb. Morningside
Offensive Line / 6-3 / 320 lbs
Morningside transfer who returns to his hometown of Crete, NE. Was a starter for the 2011 Mustang Squad after transferring from Chadron State. Expected to compete for playing time on the Tiger Offensive Line that returns 3 starters.
Kenny Boggs Northridge, Calif. LA Pierce
Running Back / 5-8 / 175 lbs
The transfer from LA Pierce College and Notre Dame Prep Academy in Los Angeles looks to provide a spark to the Tiger ground game that averaged 145 yds/gm in 2012. Has the ability to make people miss in space with the football in his hands and could also play slot receiver for the Tiger Offense.
Damond Parker Omaha, Neb. Iowa Western CC
Defensive Line / 6-2 / 305 lbs
2011 Millard North Graduate and transfer from Iowa Western Community College. Will compete immediately for playing time in the middle of the Tigers 3-5 defense. Was a Super-State selection for Millard North in 2010.
Tyler Lee Thedford, Neb. Sandhills-Thedford HS
Defensive Line / 6-5 / 215 lbs
Defensive End from Sandhills/Thedford is also an excellent basketball player and one of the best athletes in the region. He will compete for time along a young defensive front and the Tiger staff is excited to work with this talented young freshman.
Cole Lambrecht Loup City, Neb. Loup City HS
Linebacker / 6-1 / 200 lbs
This Loup City standout will join the Tiger defense as a linebacker in 2013. Enjoyed a successful multisport career in high school and will provide athleticism to the linebacking corps.
Kolby Lenhart Central City, Neb. Central City HS
Kicker / 5-9 / 150 lbs
Lenhart will join his older brother Kameron on the 2013 Tiger Football team. All-District performer for the Bison as a placekicker, is also an outstanding wrestler.
Jerry Robertson San Antonio, Texas Warren HS
Linebacker / 6-0 / 220 lbs
One of 2 San Antonio prep athletes from Warren High School joining the Tigers in 2013. An outstanding linebacker who received all-district honors will start out at the "Stack" position for Coach Bessler and the Tiger Defense. A very strong and powerful player - will bring an excellent work ethic and pedigree to Doane.
Kenneth Pelletier San Antonio, Texas Warren HS
Defensive End / 6-4 / 220 lbs
Another Warren High School graduate who will have a chance to see the field in the fall of 2013. This defensive end is extremely explosive and has also had a very successful track and field career. He has been well coached and could provide a spark for the Tiger pass rush.
Jacob Cornelius Grand Island, Neb. Grand Island HS
Wide Receiver / 5-9 / 170 lbs
Grand Island High school has been the home for many successful Tigers and they have once again dipped into the well. Cornelius will play the inside receiver spot for the Tiger Offense and has the potential to play on several special teams in the fall of 2013. All-State and All-Area performer in 2013.
Aaron Hanlin Pierce, Neb. Pierce HS
Defensive Line / 5-10 / 190 lbs
2 time All-State performer for Pierce High school and Doane Alum, Coach Mark Brahmer. Hanlin will provide a spark for the Tiger defensive line and will have the chance to make an immediate impact on special teams.
Lucas Osborn Pierce, Neb. Pierce HS
Linebacker / 6-1 / 195 lbs
All-state honorable mention athlete for Pierce High School. Will add competition to the Tiger Special teams as Osborn is an excellent punter. An All-district performer for the Bluejays, he could also contribute in the Tiger defense.
Nate Meier Pierce, Neb. Pierce HS
Runningback / 5-10 / 200 lbs
Pierce High school product has been a multiple time First Team All-State selection and will play RB for the Tigers. Selected as a participant in numerous All-Star games and is also a state qualifier for the Bluejay wrestling program. An extremely tough runner and versatile athlete, he will have the chance to boost the Doane running game that averaged 145 yds/gm in 2012.
Tanner Mazour Albion, Neb. Boone Central HS
Defensive Back / 5-10 / 190 lbs
Omaha World Herald Super State DB from Boone Central will bring a competitive pedigree to the Tiger Defense in 2013. Mazour will play DB and has the chance to compete immediately for time on special teams. Was selected as the 2012 C1 All-state QB in both major newspapers following his senior season.
Justin Garcia Cibolo, Texas Byron Steele HS
Defensive Back / 5-9 / 175 lbs
All]District Safety from Steele High School in Cibolo, TX has potential to make an immediate impact in the Tiger Secondary in 2013. Garcia will move back to his natural position as a FS and will also be a force on special teams.
Andrew Hostert Omaha, Neb. Omaha North HS
Offensive Line / 6-0 / 230 lbs
Omaha World Herald 2nd team Offensive Lineman from an Omaha North program that reached the Class A state finals in 2012. Will play on the interior offensive line for the Tigers. Also received Academic All]State recognition for his work on and off the field at North.
