Huskers Begin New Era in First Practice of 2012

The Nebraska men’s basketball team started a new era on Friday as they opened practice at the Devaney Sports Center. Under first-year head coach Tim Miles, the practice was full of energy throughout, with Miles imploring his players to get after it.

"I'm so excited to build a winner here. Once we do get things going, it'll be a good thing," Miles said.

Senior Brandon Ubel is the lone returning starter from last year’s squad who finished with a 19-13 record in its first season in the Big Ten Conference. Among the notable games was a 70-69 win over Indiana.

Following Friday’s first practice, senior forward Brandon Ubel commented, "The terminology is so different. What we used to call 'hedge' is red now. They came in first practice and said they'd call ball screens yellow. We were like 'What's yellow??'"

Miles and the Huskers hope October is a productive one as they begin the 2012 season a little over a month from now in an exhibition contest against Midland University and then officially open the season November 11 against Southern.
