Huskers Look For Second Big Ten Win Against Northwestern

The Nebraska men's basketball team looks for its second win in Big Ten Conference play as the Huskers host Northwestern Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Devaney Center.

Nebraska sits with an overall record at 10-10 and 1-6 in the Big Ten Conference, following a 71-51 loss to Illinois on Tuesday.

The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU, and every remaining game in Nebraska's schedule will be televised on a national basis.

Nebraska head coach Tim Miles wants more out effort out of the Huskers.

"I just didn't think, I mean, you have to take pride in your program, you have to plant your feet and let people know you actually stand for something. I didn't think we did any of that against Illinois."

In the first four conference games, the Huskers got to the free throw line just 40 times, Nebraska has struggled getting to the line, just 46 times in the last two games, including a 21 of 30 effort from the line against Illinois on Tuesday.

"I know it's a grind, I hear Minnesota talking about the same thing, you get the blues in January, this isn't mutually exclusive to Husker basketball, everybody's fighting it, a lot of teams are fighting it, we just have to have a competitive fire," Miles said Friday.

Miles addressed the issue further, "What do you play for? Are you playing for yourself? Are you playing because you like to play? What's your true motive? Maybe you haven't thought about it, well that's a problem, if you haven't thought about it, that's a problem. That's what we're trying to address. What are we here for? I don't think it's a question that's going to have a final answer, like if we play well tomorrow, it doesn't mean, oh yeah, now we have pride. It's a question you ask every day and it's something you build over a course of time."

Northwestern is making its first trip to Lincoln since 1975, comes off an impressive 55-48 win over #12 Minnesota on Wednesday. The Wildcats held the Gophers to 33 percent shooting, including 5 of 19 from three-point range.
