The Nebraska women's basketball team returns home after a two-game road trip to play host to Illinois in a key Big Ten battle on Thursday, Jan. 17.
Tip-off between the Huskers (12-5, 2-2 Big Ten) and the Fighting Illini (9-7, 2-2 Big Ten) is set for 7:05 p.m. (central) with live internet video on BTN.com.
The Husker Sports Network will provide a live radio broadcast of the game with Matt Coatney and Jeff Griesch on the call, including flagships B107.3 FM in Lincoln, The Wolf 93.3 FM in Omaha and 880 AM KRVN in Lexington. A free live audio stream will be available on Huskers.com.
Nebraska will try to get a step ahead of Illinois in the Big Ten standings following an 80-58 road loss at No. 8 Penn State Sunday. Emily Cady, Jordan Hooper and Lindsey Moore all scored in double figures for the Huskers. Cady (12.0 ppg, 11.3 rpg) and Hooper (12.8 ppg, 10.0 rpg) are two of only four players averaging double-doubles in conference action. Moore leads the Huskers with 16.0 points and 5.5 assists in Big Ten action.
At 9-7 overall, Illinois is closing in on last year's win total after finishing 11-19 overall and 5-11 in Jolette Law's final season as coach. First-year coach Matt Bollant is guiding one of the Big Ten's most improved teams in 2012-13. Illinois is just two possessions from being 4-0 in Big Ten play after opening with a 67-66 overtime loss to Purdue on Jan. 2. The Illini are coming off a 79-75 loss to Michigan State Sunday.
Prior to the loss to the Spartans, Illinois posted back-to-back Big Ten road wins for the first time since 2004, with wins at Ohio State and Northwestern. While Illinois is 5-3 in its last eight games, its three losses have come by a total of just six points, and the Illini own a win over a top-10 Georgia team during that stretch. Illinois has never won at the Devaney Center, although the Illini are making their first trip to Lincoln since 1992.
