Nebraska junior quarterback Taylor Martinez was honored Monday, as he shared Big Ten Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors.
The Husker signal caller from Corona, Calif., completed 26 of 34 passes for 354 yards and five touchdowns in Nebraska's 49-20 win in the season opener over Southern Miss. Martinez tied or set career bests in both passing yards and touchdowns, as he found 10 different receivers in Saturday's win. He guided the Huskers to their 27th consecutive season-opening win, as Nebraska racked up 632 yards of total offense, NU's best single-game total since 2007.
It is the fourth time in his career that Martinez has earned a weekly conference award, as he was selected as the Big Ten's Offensive Player of the Week following last year's win over Ohio State and was the Big 12 Player of the Week twice in 2010.
Martinez shared the honor with Michigan State running back Le'Veon Bell, who rushed for 210 yards on 44 carries against Boise State.
Martinez and the Huskers head west this weekend, as they take on UCLA Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. (central) in a game broadcast nationally on FOX.
