NWU Lands 3 Players on All-GPAC Basketball Team

Nebraska Wesleyan University had three players recognized by the Great Plains Athletic Conference on Wednesday (Feb. 27) when the 2012-13 Men’s Basketball All-GPAC team’s were announced. Junior guard Eric Jackson was named Second-Team All-GPAC with junior forwards TrevorJohnson and Tim Schweitzer earning All-GPAC honorable mention.

Jackson (Lincoln, Neb.) was named 2nd-Team All-GPAC after earning honorable mention as a sophomore. This season he led the team in scoring averaging 12.9 points per game, marking the second consecutive year he led the Prairie Wolves in scoring. Jackson was third in the GPAC in 3-pointers made per game (2.6) hitting 65 3-pointers on the season. He scored in double figures in 18 games, topping 20 points four times. The Lincoln Southeast H.S., product moved up to third all-time at NWU with 162 made 3-pointers.

Johnson (Lincoln, Neb.) is honorable mention All-GPAC for the second consecutive season. Johnson was second on the team in scoring at 10.1 points per game, while leading the team in field goal percentage (.544). The Lincoln Pius X graduate scored in double figures in 13 of 23 games, despite missing time due to injury.

Schweitzer (Bedford, Iowa) receives his first All-Conference honor. As a junior he averaged 8.6 points and 4.6 rebounds. He was one of the top inside defenders and had 53 assists out of the post to rank second on the team. His 26 blocked shots was the sixth highest single season total in NWU history and ranked fifth in the GPAC.

Ben Miller from Briar Cliff was named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Player-of-the Year to headline the All-GPAC team. Trent Miller from Morningside was the Defensive Players-of-the-Year, Conner Beranek from Doane was the Freshman-of-the-Year and Kyle Korver fromNorthwestern was the Coach-of-the-Year.

Nebraska Wesleyan finished the 2012-13 season with a 13-12 overall record marking the first winning season since 2008. It was also the most wins for the Prairie Wolves in five years.
