The Hastings College Football Team could not overcome their own mistakes as they fell to Nebraska Wesleyan 21-14 in the Broncos season finale on Saturday afternoon.
Windy conditions were already a major problem for both teams, but compound that with five turnovers and NWU recovering a kickoff that got caught up in the wind, makes it even tougher to win.
Hastings did everything it could defensively to keep the Broncos in the game holding the Prairiewolves to six field goal attempts and they only converted two of them. But the offense could not find any momentum to cut the deficit that was double digits for most of the game.
Hastings still had a chance after cutting the deficit to seven with 3:08 remaining but NWU was able to convert two first downs. Then they picked up one more when the Broncos were called for defensive holding on third down giving the Prairiewolves a first down along with the game.
Keenan Ballage led the Bronco rushing attack with 73 yards and a touchdown while John Dostal threw for 198 yards and rushed for 46.
John Melies led the Hastings defense with 11 tackles including two sacks.
Hastings ends their season at 6-4 (5-4) finishing tied for fourth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
