Although the fall is the offseason for the Indoor Football League, for the Nebraska Danger front office, it's their busiest time of the year.
"The role is to get as much work as we can get done during the offseason so that the actual season goes smoothly," said Nebraska Danger General Manage Mike McCoy. "We just have to make sure that we take advantage of every second during that game and make it as fun as we can possibly make it for the average fan."
The Nebraska Danger have the best attendance in the IFL going into their third season, they were even named the 2011 Best Fans in the IFL. This is something that motivates the players.
Quarterback/Wide Receiver Jameel Sewell said, "It's just amazing, the fan base that we have here. It makes you feel good, it makes you want to make sure you do the right things and play well to make sure that we keep these fans happy because they really do support us a lot and we do appreciate it."
That keeps the front office laboring to top themselves each year, a task which involves meeting with countless clients in order to fill seats...
"We have to do a lot right now so we can free ourselves up during that actual game week to do things for that game," says McCoy. "That's why people are booking groups right now, buying tickets right now. They're doing everything they can do right now because they know that when the season hits and when the players get here, things just get absolutely nuts!"
McCoy says the relationship between players and fans is a key factor in keeping attendance up, and the players know that is a product of the work the front office does during the offseason.
"They do a good job of making sure that we do the right things and we play good ball and get the right people in here to represent them as well as ourselves so that we can get a crowd, so that we can get people to entertain." said Sewell.
