Ex-Husker and native Nebraskan Tom Rathman is back in the Super Bowl as an assistant coach for the San Francisco 49ers. Rathman's in his second stint over-seeing the 49ers running backs. He held the position from 1997 to 2002 and returned to San Francisco in 2009 after stops in Detroit and Oakland.
Rathman played for the 49ers, helping the team win two Super Bowls. Prior to his NFL career, Rathman was a three-year letterwinner at Nebraska and still holds school records for single-season rushing yardage by a fullback (881 yards) and career touchdowns by a fullback (12).
Rathman hails from Grand Island, where he helped GISH win a state championship and was a star track-and-field athlete. Rathman won the state high jump title in 1980.
