Student Dies in After-School Basketball Game

Stunned students at Johnson-Brock schools are mourning together after a senior collapsed and died during a pick-up basketball game Wednesday.

According to Superintendent Jeff Koehler, Terron Jones was playing basketball in the high school gym just after 4 p.m. when he collapsed.

Koehler said Jones and other students had finished their first game after school and had just started a second game after taking a water break.

Koehler said Jones had not been complaining about feeling ill and did not have appear to have any injuries. He simply collapsed as the game began.

Koehler and a coach that was in the gym performed CPR until rescue crews arrived. Jones was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead an hour later.

Koehler said the tragedy has shocked the entire community. Jones was a great person who was well liked by all of the other students. Koehler said the entire student body from elementary students through 12th grade were in tears Thursday. Counselors and clergy members were called in Wednesday night and were at the schools Thursday to help students deal with their grief.

Koehler said Jones has several other siblings in the school district.

A posting on Jones' Facebook page lists funeral information:
Visitation at Hall funeral chapel on Monday from 1-9 and the family meet and greet from 6-8. The funeral will be on Tuesday Nov 13 at 10:30 in the Johnson High School Gym. Burial will be in Lincoln at the Wyuka Cemetery at 4:30.
