UNK Football Team Receives Votes in Preseason Poll

The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 preseason poll was released on Monday, August 13th, and the MIAA is represented by four schools.

Defending national champion Pittsburg State is No. 1 with 720 points and 21 first place votes. Rival NW Missouri State is in third (613; one first place) with Missouri Western State 18th and Washburn 20th.

UNK plays at Washburn in Topeka, Kans., on August 30th, is at Mo. Western two weeks later and then Northwest comes to Kearney for Homecoming in September 22nd.

The Lopers, which ended 2011 ranked 10th, picked up 122 points to rank third among "others receiving votes." The other MIAA school in this group is Central Missouri (72), which hosts the Lopers in November.
