Lincoln – Sophomore Ameer Abdullah added to the Huskers’ preseason watch list total on Thursday, as he was named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List. The award is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend Paul Hornung.

Abdullah ranked ninth in kickoff returns as a true freshman, averaging 29.3 yards per return, including a 100-yard touchdown against Fresno State. He set the two highest single-game kickoff totals in school history in 2011, including a school-record 228 yards against Fresno State. In addition, he also rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns backing up All-Big Ten performer Rex Burkhead, as he appeared in all 13 contests.

The watch list is comprised of 25 seniors, 16 juniors and eight sophomores, representing 44 universities and 10 conferences that are part of the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The Hornung Award selection committee, comprised of 16 national sports journalists and former college and NFL players, will narrow the field to a small group of finalists in early December. The winner will be selected in early January following the bowl season.
