The Nebraska women's basketball team earned preseason top-25 mention from Lindy's when the publication released its annual poll recently.
The Huskers, who return four starters and 10 letterwinners from a team that finished 24-9 overall in 2011-12, were picked No. 19 in Lindy's preseason rankings.
It was the second set of preseason top-25 rankings the Huskers have earned following a runner-up finish in the 2012 Big Ten Tournament and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Earlier in the offseason, Nebraska was chosen No. 16 in Charlie Creme's early preseason rankings for ESPN.com that came out in late-April.
Several of Nebraska's regular-season opponents also earned top-25 selections, led by marquee non-conference foe Maryland, which was preseason No. 4 by Lindy's. The Huskers will square off with the Terrapins at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln on Wednesday, Nov. 28.
While Maryland will present a huge early season home test for the Huskers, Big Ten foe Penn State will put an exclamation point on Nebraska's final season at the Devaney Center. The Lady Lions will come to town for Senior Day on Sunday, March 3 - Nebraska's final home game at the Devaney Center. Penn State, which won the 2012 regular-season Big Ten title, enters the season at No. 8 in Lindy's Top 25.
Early in the Big Ten schedule, the Huskers will face Big Ten Tournament champion Purdue for the first and last time in Devaney Center history on Saturday, Jan. 5. The Boilermakers, who played a total of five overtimes in two games last season against the Huskers, enter the season at No. 17 in Lindy's preseason rankings.
Nebraska will open the 2012-13 season by playing host to Pittsburg State in exhibition action on Monday, Oct. 29 at the Devaney Center. The Gorillas advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight last season.
