The Nebraska women's gymnastics team received a ranking of No. 7 nationally in the GymInfo 2013 Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Huskers received the ranking after finishing eighth at the 2012 NCAA Championships and first in the Big Ten conference last season.
Four of the top five vote-earning teams were NCAA Super Six finalists in 2012. Two-time defending national champion Alabama captured the No. 1 spot in the poll, followed by No. 2 UCLA and No. 3 Florida. Oklahoma (No. 4) and Utah (No. 5) rounded out the top five.
The Huskers were tops among Big Ten teams in the rankings, and joined Michigan (No. 10) as one of two conference teams named in the top 10. Other Big Ten teams in the top 25 included Ohio State (No. 14), Penn State (No. 16), Illinois (No. 18) and Minnesota (No. 23). The Huskers will face all five top 25 conference teams in the regular season this year while adding away meets with No. 12 Arkansas and No. 19 Arizona. Nebraska will also host No. 15 Boise State as part of the annual Masters Classic invitational on Feb. 22.
NU returns six previous All-Americans in 2013, including 2012 honorees Jessie DeZiel, Janelle Giblin and Emily Wong. The trio of DeZiel, Giblin and Wong earned eight All-America accolades last season, including four first-team honors. Kassandra Nathe, Jamie Schleppenbach and Brittany Skinner round out the Huskers' roster of returning All-Americans.
Nebraska will open its season on Jan. 12 in Ann Arbor against the No. 10 Wolverines. NU's first home meet of the season will be on Jan. 19, when the Big Red hosts Michigan State at the Devaney Center. That meet is slated for a 6 p.m. CST start.
