Bubba Starling is a Kansas City Royal. The fifth overall draft pick signed with the Royals just before Monday night's 11 p.m. deadline meaning he will not play for the University of Nebraska.
Reports say the deal is worth $7.5 million over three years.
"This guy is without a doubt one of the best athletes to play the game of baseball in a long time," Royals' general manager Dayton Moore said after tonight's game.
Starling had been enrolled at Nebraska and planned on playing football and baseball for the Huskers. He sat out fall workouts with NU while contract negotiations with the Royals heated up.
Starling's decision leaves Nebraska with just two scholarship quarterbacks, Taylor Martinez and Brion Carnes.
