The NTCA released its All-America selections for the 2011-12 bowling season on Wednesday evening in preparation for the NCAA Championships beginning on Thursday morning. Three Huskers were among the honored.
NU's Kayla Johnson earned first-team NCTA All-American honors. It is the first All-American award for the senior from Washington, Ill. Johnson becomes the first twenty-third Husker to earn the honor. Johnson earned a spot on the first-team Academic All-Big 12 squad in 2011.
Nebraska's Kristi Mickelson was honored with a spot on the third-team NTCA All-American squad. It is the junior's first selection to an All-American squad. Mickelson is a two-time member of the NTCA All-Academic team for academic excellence and twenty-fourth Nebraska bowler to earn a spot on the list.
Senior Valerie Calberry earned her second selection to the NTCA Honorable Mention All-America team. Calberry was chosen to the third-team All-American squad in 2009. The Brampton, Ontario native is a three-time member of the NTCA All-Academic team.
The Husker bowlers are in Wickliffe, Ohio, the site of the 2012 NCAA Bowling Championships. The event will run from April 12-14 with the final championship round being broadcast live on ESPNU on April 14 at 7 p.m.(CT) Each round leading up to the finals will be aired live on NCAA.com.
