The concert begins at 7:00 pm on December 17, 2012 at 6431 S. 32nd Street.
On December 17, 2012 Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Judy Pancoast will be presenting an outdoor Christmas concert at the home of Terry Stehlik and Gary Morrison at 6431 S. 32nd Street.
The public is invited free of charge, but attendees are asked to bring a donation for Food Bank of Lincoln BackPack Program.
Pancoast is visiting Lincoln as part of her third annual “The House on Christmas Street International Tour,” in support of her new CD, “Christmas with Mrs. Claus.” Concerts on the tour are performed on the lawns and in the driveways of the decorating enthusiasts who have become her biggest fans and use her music in their animated lighting displays. The Stehlik/Morrison’s home is well known in the area for its magnificent annual display. This is the first year that they have hosted Pancoast’s tour.
The Food Bank BackPack Program began during the 2004-05 school year at Clinton Elementary School, sending home food-filled backpacks on Friday afternoons with 50 kids. The program quickly took off and now is serving hundreds of students. The BackPack Program’s mission is to help alleviate child hunger in southeast Nebraska by providing hungry children with nutritious and easy to prepare food at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations.
The BackPack Program continues to provide backpacks filled with food to students in need of food over the weekend. The program primarily targets students who qualify for their school’s Free Lunch Program. Many of these students rely on their school’s breakfasts and lunches for their most nutritious meals of the day. In some cases, these are their only meals of the day. These students are then faced with a food crisis over the weekend. The BackPack Program is a way to help these students and their families until students return to school on Monday.
Singer-songwriter Judy Pancoast is well-known among families for her four albums of original music for children and her outrageously fun family concerts. She was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album in 2011 for her CD, “Weird Things are Everywhere!”. Pancoast’s concert in Lincoln will feature original songs from her two Christmas CDs as well as traditional favorites and sing-a-longs and is sure to put you and your family in a festive mood for Christmas. After the concert, Pancoast invites attendees for a “meet and greet” during which she will sign autographs, pose for photos and offer CDs and tour tee shirts for sale. Ten percent of the proceeds from her sales will also benefit Food Bank of Lincoln BackPack Program
Gary and Terry’s “We Believe” Christmas Lights in Lincoln have used Judy’s “House on Christmas Street” song in their music and light show for the past couple of years. They feel fortunate to be able to host Judy on one of her 24 stops around the country. They feel equally fortunate to be able to share her live performance with the people in and around Lincoln. Of course during this holiday season having the opportunity to collect donations for the BackPack Program, with all it does to support Lincoln’s school children, will make this event something they will never forget.
Gary and Terry encourage everybody to come out and enjoy this unique and joyous event in Lincoln. They hope to have the street in front of their house closed to allow for safety and extra room to enjoy this concert. Remember to dress warm and be prepared to celebrate this very special holiday season, on Monday, December 17, 2012, with Judy, Terry and Gary. And who knows there may be a special guest or two at the performance.
The concert begins at 7:00 pm on December 17, 2012 at 6431 S. 32nd Street. They will be working with the City to close S. 32nd from Laredo to Browning to allow for safety and extra room to enjoy this concert. Even though they have a wide street please carpool as much as possible because parking could be at a premium.
