What's Happening on This Week's Buzz – Mar. 13

On this week’s episode of Star City Buzz, we travel down the road to Elmwood, Neb. to tour the Bess Streeter Aldrich House and Museum. The museum is located at 204 East F Street in Elmwood, Neb. Bess Streeter Aldrich is a well-known author of many novels about living in the Midwest. Her first novel, Mother Mason was published in 1924. The museum is located in her home in Elmwood. Tour hours are May through October: Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 2PM to 5PM and November through April: Saturdays and Sundays from 2PM to 5PM. Outside the LUX Box is a fun artistic event to raise funds for the LUX Center for the Arts. The fundraiser challenges one hundred artists to transform a blank lunch box into a work of art. Anyone can pick up a lunch box at Screen Ink located at 416 South 11th Street in Lincoln, Neb. for 20 dollars. You must turn in your finished lunch box by Friday, April 19th. The lunch boxes will then be sold at a fundraiser at Screen Ink on May 3rd from 7PM to 11PM for 100 dollars. Click the link in the sidebar for more information. It’s Mexican & Margaritas Month on Star City Buzz. For our second stop, we take a trip to La Paz. La Paz is owned by Rick and Linda Burroughs-Holm. The restaurant is known for its delicious margaritas and chips and salsa. One of its most popular dishes is the cream cheese chicken enchilada. This week, Schmoes Know reviews the movie Oz The Great and Powerful. It’s a prequel to the original story of the Wizard of Oz. The movie shows how Oz becomes the wizard. Fans of jazz music will enjoy Brewsky’s Jazz Underground in the lower level of Brewsky’s Food & Spirits located at 201 North 8th Street in Lincoln, Neb. The Capital Jazz Society organizes the events. They include the Monday Night Big Band and Lincoln Jazz Series. The performances last from 7:30PM to 10PM on Mondays and Wednesdays on various dates. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for students with valid ID Watch the video to hear the talented musicians of the Monday Night Big Band.

Finally, the Shrine Circus is in town. It will be at the Pershing Center here in Lincoln from March 13 through the 17th. The circus is at 12:30 and 7PM each day. Tickets are reserved and cost between 14 and 16 dollars. Save money on tickets with coupons from Hy-Vee, US Bank, U-Stop, and Dietze Music.
