On this week’s episode of Star City Buzz, we give in to the inner sweet tooth and take a tour of Lincoln’s own Sugar Plum Candies located at 5500 Old Cheney Rd. The business has been in Lincoln for nearly 30 years and sells 100 different kinds of hand-dipped chocolates. Get in the holiday spirit with the Lincoln Women’s Chamber of Commerce’s Home for the Holidays Tour. Four homeowners decorate their abodes with holiday cheer and welcome the public to take a tour. The event benefits the free health clinic at the People’s City Mission and the Child Advocacy Center. This year’s tour is in the Village Garden Division of Lincoln and takes place November 18th from 1 to 4PM. Tickets are seven dollars.Watch the video for a preview of one of the homes.
The UNL Theatre season continues with a production of Paragon Springs. This play is set in the 1920's in a small town in the Midwest. A doctor thinks the town's healing springs are making people sick, but the springs are the life-blood of the area's economy. Paragon Springs details the fine line between what's right and what's wrong. You can see it November 14th through the 17th at 7:30PM and November 18th at 2PM in the Studio Theatre on the first floor of the Temple Building at 12th and R Streets. Just down the road, Nebraska Wesleyan Theatre is performing The Farnsworth Invention. The play is a historic look at the invention of the television. A boy genius inventor and a group of scientists race to create the TV. Catch the play November 15th through the 17th at 7:30PM and November 18th at 2PM in the Miller Lab Theatre at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Tickets are available at the Nebraska Wesleyan Box Office. It’s Bountiful Breakfast Month on Star City Buzz and for our next stop, we head to Virginia’s Travelers Café located at 3820 Cornhusker HWY. Owner Michael Bonbusch took over the restaurant from his mother in 2000. She started it in 1978 and Virginia’s has been serving some customers from the beginning. They serve basic breakfast food and specialty items like the Farm Platter and the Malted Waffle. Visit Virginia’s Monday through Friday from 5AM to 8PM, Saturday from 5AM to 2PM or Sunday from 6:30AM to 2PM. Watch the video to see the delicious food that keeps customers coming back.
The Schmoes review the latest movie from director Steven Spielberg, Lincoln. It is set during Abraham Lincoln's presidency, specifically during the period in which he was trying to pass the 13th Amendment which abolished slavery. Daniel Day-Lewis plays Lincoln in the movie. Do you have a bucket list? Students at Doane College in Crete joined artist Candy Chang in creating a “Before I Die Wall” for Doane’s Campus. The wall is located in Nyrop Hall in the Perry Campus Center at the School of Arts and Sciences in Crete. The wall features blank lines where students can write want they want to do before death. The temperatures are getting colder and that means it’s time to bust out the winter wear. If you’re looking for something new, LUX Center for the Arts is hosting their Warm, Wooly and Wearable trunk show Thursday. Browse, try on, and purchase these warm works before the cold days of winter set in on November 15 from 6-8pm at 2601 North 48th Street. Finally, they say it’s the premiere pre-game party in the nation. Husker Nation Pavilion provides fun for fans of all ages beginning three hours prior to kickoff every Husker gameday. Event features include inflatables, balloon creations, obstacle courses, baseball pitching, QB toss, Field Goal kicks, Putt-Putt golf, and autographs from former Huskers or current athletes.
