On this week’s episode of Star City Buzz, we get wild at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo located at 1222 S. 27th Street in Lincoln. The zoo has more than 400 animals and is open through October 15th from 10AM to 5PM Monday through Sunday. Our favorite zoo man, John Chapo gives Star City Buzz the inside scoop on the zoo. See the people and places of Africa at a five-week exhibition at Nebraska Wesleyan University’s Elder Gallery located at 50th Street & Huntington Ave in Lincoln. The exhibit features photographs taken by Betty Press while she lived and worked in Kenya as a freelance photojournalist. The exhibition is titled ”I Am Because We Are: African Wisdom in Image and Proverb” and runs from September 7th through October 21st. Elder Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10AM to 4PM, Saturday and Sunday from 1PM to 4PM and admission is free and open to the public. It’s Awesome Ethnic Food Month on Star City Buzz and for our second stop, Buzz Reporter Bonney Bowman steps inside Jerk & Go. Jerk & Go is a food truck specializing in Jamaican food right here in the Capital City. Kyle Lamb does the majority of the cooking in this bus restaurant. This week, our Behind the Mic segment takes you to the home of 10/11 weekend anchor and weekday reporter Owen Jensen. Father of four, Owen and his wife Kelley are busy parents. Owen joined the 10/11 News team just over a year ago and is happy to be part of the Lincoln community. Watch the video to hear all about Owen’s life when he’s not on camera.
Finally, Husker football season is finally underway and that means pep rallies, tailgates, and of course the Cornhusker Marching Band. If you aren’t one of the lucky fans to catch them on game day, they’ll pep you up each Friday night before a Husker home game. You can head to Misty’s in Havelock from 7 to 8PM or Grandmother’s on 70th and A Streets from 8 to 9PM to hear them play. They get fans pepped up with fight songs and much more.
