Bob Jorgensen joined the KOLN/KGIN team in August of 2011 as the new Assignment Manager, but he was already familiar with the station.

Bob Jorgensen joined the KOLN/KGIN team in August of 2011 as the new Assignment Manager, but he was already familiar with the station.

That’s because Bob worked here while putting himself through college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 1998 to 2005. He got his start in the Production department, where he went from Camera Operator to Director in just over a year.

After graduating from UNL with Bachelor’s Degrees in both Broadcast Journalism and English, he became a Producer for Gray Communications’ sister station WOWT in Omaha. He had the distinction of being the only Producer to have written and produced every single newscast WOWT airs. (That’s 7 different newscasts!)

Again, it took only a year for him to be promoted to WOWT’s Evening Assignment Editor, where he learned the journalistic and leadership skills that he would need to become KOLN’s Assignment Manager.
Bob firmly believes that laughter is the best medicine, especially in a busy newsroom where stress is just a part of the job. So he does his best to keep spirits high (but the jury is still out as to whether he’s actually funny).

While you won’t see him on air anytime soon, you can hear him several times a day as the voice of the jobs page at 1011now.com.

At home, he is welcomed by his wife April and their two-year-old daughter Elaine. Oh, and his slightly pudgy cat “Wally.”
