It's hard to believe that it has been almost 30 years since I began working at 10/11.
My first day at the station was October 1, 1981 and in many ways the time has flown by. I have had an opportunity to work with great people, go to great places and learn great things. This state is my home and 10/11 viewers are a part of my extended family. I have had the privilege of connecting with thousands of people through our shared love of this state...and our shared fascination with weather.
After spending a couple of years forecasting the weekend weather, I was given the greatest career opportunity of my life in May of 1986. That is when I took over as Chief Meteorologist for 10/11. Over 20 years of weather forecasts...a few of which were even accurate ! It has been a great pleasure to serve the people of Nebraska...and as is usually the case...it has been the people I've worked with and the viewers I've met along the way that have been the highlight of my career.
As a lifelong Nebraskan born in Columbus, I remain a huge sports fan. I love playing all sports but at my advanced age it seems that golf is at the top of my list most of the time. I follow all the Husker teams and marvel at the midwest work ethic and sense of "team" that the best of "Big Red" has to offer. If I had to choose one food and one food only to eat everyday for the rest of my life it would be pizza. Clint Eastwood is one of my favorite movie actors of all time and I laugh out loud to Larry The Cable Guy...even when I'm home all alone. I wish they made more westerns and I wish that Seinfeld had never ended.
They say that the first 28 years are the hardest...so I'm really looking forward to more accuracy, more wild Nebraska weather and more opportunities to meet more of you. After all, my job, and the real essence of journalism, is to inform and serve the "viewer". If it weren't for "you", there would be no need for "me"...and I promise I will never forget that. Thanks for watching and always keep an eye on the sky!
