Registration is now open for the 2013 Schoolhouse Fiddle Camps, in the Old Avoca Schoolhouse, in Avoca, Nebraska. Camp is from July 8 thru 12 from 9am - 1pm.
Deborah Greenblatt, championship fiddler, author of many fiddle collections, will help the campers get in touch with their inner fiddler. The course of study during the Schoolhouse Fiddle Camps will be designed specifically for the individual campers who sign up.

Personal Achievement Workshops (PAWS) Summer Enrichment Program Registration

This year, PAWS will be held at Buffalo Hills Elementary at 6110 11th Avenue Kearney, NE
Kearney Public Schools invites area students to participate in the PAWS summer enrichment program. PAWS offers 60 exciting workshops in the month of June and July for students entering first through sixth grades. Charles Ahovissi, African Culture Connection Founder and recipient of the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award, will have students feeling the rhythm of Africa as they play djembe drums during Africa Live! Students in Camp Jurassic will travel back in time when they see Dinosaurs Live!, life size animatronic dinosaurs, at the Omaha zoo and "Sue", the largest T-Rex ever excavated, at Omaha's Durham Museum. Students will fly rockets and float personal hot air balloons in Float and Fly; dissect a sheep's heart in Medical Investigations; use a professional pottery wheel in Pottery & Clay and build your own go-cart in Go-Karts. They encourage parents to register right away as some classes fill up quickly. Workshops range in price from $40-$180 with discounts for families on free and reduced lunch and those that are registering two or more kids.

Lincoln County Historical Musseum, 2403 N. Buffalo Bill Ave, North Platte, NE
The Lincoln County Historical Museum would like to announce the 2013 “Beard Growing Contest” that will be held on Sunday, June 9th at 1:00 p.m. during this year’s Heritage Festival. There will be two divisions: Natural Beard (Beard & Mustache) and Styled Beard (Beard & Mustache or just Beard, which is styled). Duck Dynasty (Duck Commander) prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd places in each division. An entry fee of $5.00 will allow a contestant to compete in one division. All entries must be submitted by May 31, 2013. Entry forms will be available on February 1st at the museum or on the museum’s website, www.lincolncountymuseum.org.
