Q. Can I get KOLN/KGIN over the air, without a cable or satelliteconnection?

A. Yes. KOLN/KGIN, KOLN/KGIN-DT and My TV can be received with the use of an antenna or in some cases simple “rabbit ears” depending on your location.

Q. Since you are transmitting HDTV, can I still get analog over the air on my current TV, or do I need a new one?

A. KOLN/KGIN analog is still broadcast as it always has been on Ch. 10 near Lincoln and 11 in Grand Island. These can be received with anyconventional TV set.

Q. How about HDTV and My TV?

A. For KOLN/KGIN-DT and My TV, you need an HDTV tuner or receiver. Many HDTV sets have built in tuners, however some do not (check before you buy).

Q. Can I get these with my existing TV set?

A. Conventional or existing TV sets can receive these with the use of an external “set top box” HDTV tuner, available at major retail outlets.

Q. What is “channel mapping.”

A. HDTV tuners “map” or assign channel #s to a program stream based on information sent along with it. For example, KOLN-HD is actually broadcast on Ch 25 UHF, but your tuner will “map” it to Ch. 10-1, and that is how it will appear. My TV will “map” to Ch. 10-2

Q. So what kind of antenna do I need, one for Ch. 10 VHF or 25 UHF.

A. You need a UHF antenna to pick up this signal, because it’s actually on Ch. 25 UHF.

Q. Can I get the signal where I live?

A. See chart below. You need an antenna pointed toward the transmitting location. A VHF antenna for Ch’s 10 and 11 or UHF for HDTV Ch’s 25 and 32. Combination VHF/ UHF or “all channel” antenna’s are most common.

LINCOLN AREA:
(Approximately a 50 mile radius around Seward, NE)
Point antenna toward Seward, NE.

ANALOG: Ch. 10
KOLN-DT / My TV Ch. 25 UHF

GRAND ISLAND AREA
(approximately a 50 m radius around Heartwell, NE)

KGIN-DT / My TV Ch. 32 UHF
