The remnants of Hurricane Earl have dumped rain on Cape Cod, but the storm's close brush with the Northeast has been less intense than feared.

Earl is now a tropical storm with winds of 70 mph. The center of the storm is about 105 miles east-southeast of Nantucket. It's headed for Nova Scotia.

In Massachusetts, there are a few hundred power outages, a handful of downed power lines and isolated flooding in low-lying areas.

Nantucket has gotten about 1.5 inches of rain, while adjacent Martha's Vineyard has gotten more than 3 inches. More could fall until daybreak.

Earl had caused flooding but no injuries and little damage on North Carolina's Outer Banks.
