A fire in the Sequoia National Forest has destroyed six homes and charred almost 8 square miles near the California town of Kernville.
Fire officials said Tuesday the blaze, which started Monday afternoon, is threatening additional structures. The cause is under investigation. No injuries have been reported.
Meanwhile, to the north in Lassen County, crews are making progress battling a series of lightning-sparked fires east of Straylor Lake.
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesman Daniel Berlant says 250 acres of timber have burned. The fires are 30 percent contained.
Officials say thousands of lightning strikes have started dozens of small fires in Lassen, Siskiyou and Shasta counties.
