Crews Clear Rocks and Reopen Busy Yosemite Highway

A busy highway in Yosemite National Park is set to reopen, less than a week after house-size boulders crashed down on it during a major storm.

Park officials say the Big Oak Flat Road portion of Highway 120 will be cleared by 8 a.m. Saturday.

The scenic roadway, which is the continuation of Highway 120 within the park, was closed after what Yosemite officials termed a "large rockfall" during the night of Jan. 22.

The park's roads and trails crew have been working to clear the busy highway used by visitors driving in from Northern California. The road will have a gravel surface for weekend traffic, and visitors are urged to drive slowly through the area.

Next week, the crew plans to close the road again to repave the damaged area.
