Water Trucked to Nearly Bone-Dry Texas Town

Trucks for the first time are hauling water to a Texas town that stands precariously close to becoming the state's first to go dry during a historic drought.

Lower Colorado River Authority spokeswoman Clara Tuma says the first two truckloads of water are arriving in Spicewood Monday. She says the town's wells can no longer produce enough water to meet the needs of the community's 1,100 residents and elementary school.

Spicewood is about 35 miles from Austin. LCRA says it is exploring permanent solutions, including drilling a new well or drawing water from nearby Lake Travis.

The water trucked in will go into a 129,000-gallon storage tank that is connected to the town's pipes.
