Watches and Warnings

Forecast for Central and Eastern Nebraska

A warm front will push across the state Friday setting the stage for hotter and more humid conditions. High temperatures well into the 90s are expected on Friday and some areas may see 100 or better. Dew points have risen as well, so, heat index values may range from 100 to 110 degrees. For this reason, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon until 7pm for south-central and southeastern Nebraska.

The warm front will also initiate some thunderstorm development. Some of these storms could be strong-to-severe in spots. Widespread thunderstorm activity is still not anticipated at this time...because of warm mid-level temperatures accompanying the front..but isolated severe activity will be possible. A couple of fast-moving upper-level disturbances will also enhance our scattered thunderstorm chance late Friday night into Saturday morning. A cold front is expected to finally push through the region by Saturday night...sending some relief our way by Sunday and continuing into the first half of next week. Dry conditions are expected Sunday and Monday...with some thunderstorm chances returning by Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs from Sunday through Wednesday should range from the upper 70s to the middle 80s.

TODAY: Mostly sunny, hotter and more humid..with a 20% chance for a shower or thunderstorm...both early and then again late in the day. A bit breezy again...with westerly winds turning northwesterly at 10 to 20 mph. Highs from around 90 in northern Nebraska to around 100 in the southeast.

TONIGHT: Clear to partly cloudy...with a 20% chance for a late-night shower or thunderstorm...especially across northern Nebraska. North-northeasterly winds of 5 to 15 mph. Lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

SATURDAY: Partly cloudy and not quite as hot...with a 20% chance for showers and thunderstorms in the morning...and a 20% chance for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon over southeastern Nebraska. Any thunderstorms that develop in the afternoon may be strong-to-severe. East-northeast winds of 5 to 15 mph. Highs in the upper 80s to the lower-to-mid 90s.
